How to Contribute

Quick, simple steps to add people, connect relationships, and share stories and photos without making the tree go feral.

Before you add anyone
  • Go to People and search the name first (try maiden names and nicknames).
  • If they already exist, open their profile and add missing details instead of creating a duplicate.
  • If something looks wrong and you’re not sure how to fix it, email Cheryl:cheryl.tyler2020@gmail.com
Add a person
  1. Open Add Person.
  2. Enter full name (required), and any known details (birth year, birth place, etc.).
  3. Save.

Note: adding a person alone won’t place them correctly in the tree until relationships are added.

Add relationships (places people in the tree)

Parent relationship (most important)

Add a Parent relationship where From = Parent and To = Child. If there are two parents, add two parent links.

Marriage / Partnership

Add a Marriage or Partnership between the two people. Status can be current or ended.

Add stories (with prompts if you want them)
  1. Open the person’s profile.
  2. Click Add story.
  3. If you’re not sure what to write, use the Prompts option in the stories section (it gives ideas and questions to help you get started).
  4. Save.

Great story ideas: how someone met their partner, childhood memories, work life, moves between towns/countries, funny moments, and “what they were like”.

Add photos
  1. Open a person (or a story).
  2. Click Add photo and upload.
  3. Add a short note if you can (who’s in it, where it was taken, approximate year).

Old scans are perfect. Slightly wonky is fine. We’re building history, not a museum exhibition.

Documents (birth / marriage / death certificates)

We don’t have a dedicated documents section yet. For now, please use one of these workarounds:

  • Upload as a photo (scan or clear phone photo) and label it in the story/notes as “Birth certificate”, etc.
  • Add a note saying who holds the original (or where it’s stored).

A proper Documents area (PDF support + document type labels) can be added later once we decide the best layout.

Need help or spotted a bug?

Email Cheryl with the person’s name and what looks wrong. If you can, include a screenshot.
